1. Protect Their Paws from Cold and Ice

Snow, ice, and de-icing salts can be harsh on your dog’s paws, so consider giving them a wipe down after walks. Using a paw balm or protective booties can also prevent cracks and irritation.

2. Keep Up with Exercise

Getting your dog out for regular exercise is important for their physical and mental health, even when it’s chilly.

However, if the weather turns extreme, indoor activities can supplement outdoor walks. Games like hallway fetch or puzzle toys keep your dog active and engaged without putting them at risk.

3. Adjust Diet and Hydration

Cold weather can mean your dog burns more energy, especially if they’re spending lots of time outside. Make sure their food matches their activity, and don’t be afraid to bump up the portions a little if needed.

And remember water! Even in freezing temps, pups still need plenty to stay hydrated. It’s easier to forget when it’s cold outside.

4. Keep Them Warm at Home

Even indoors, some dogs may feel the chill, especially small breeds, seniors, or those with short coats. Provide a warm bed in a draft-free area, and consider adding a blanket or dog-safe heating pad.

Keeping the home comfortably warm and offering cozy spots to rest can make a big difference in their comfort and overall health.
