It’s taken more than two months, but Bam Bam the service dog has been reunited with his family in Chicago. His owner, Angel Santiago, is 58 years old and legally blind, and desperately searched for his missing pooch ever since he went missing. Here are the details.

Stolen from His Own Backyard

Bam Bam is Angel Santiago’s emotional support dog. The 14-year-old Dachshund mix was stolen by two men on June 5. They broke into his backyard in Logan Square while he was on a bathroom break and snatched him up.

Santiago tried to stop the two thieves, but they got away with Bam Bam. He prayed every day and handed out flyers, even walking miles daily, in an effort to find his companion.

His story of searching for his dog spread far and wide, and people from around the country, as well as around the world, showed their support by raising money through donations and spreading the word on social media. Even PETA got involved and was just days away from putting up billboards about Bam Bam when he was found.

An Excited Reunion and an Ongoing Investigation

It wasn’t until August 19 that a man and woman brought a dog who matched Bam Bam’s description to the 16th District police station. They didn’t provide any information.

Once the officers knew for certain that it was Santiago’s dog, thanks to his microchip, they alerted him and he immediately went to the station to find his beloved pooch. After veterinarians examined him, it was determined that Bam Bam was in good shape, aside from cardiac enlargement and long nails that were overdue for a trim.

As for the people who stole Bam Bam, no arrests have been made yet, but everyone is hoping that they will be found and justice will be served. Detectives are investigating and trying to learn more about the individuals who dropped him off at the station.
