Crews at the Coral Springs Fire Department had gathered to honor the victims of September 11 when they discovered they had an uninvited guest.

You see, a tiny tabby kitten had somehow climbed onto the department's platform truck and could not figure out how to get back down. Nobody had penciled "rescue a kitten from our own apparatus" into the morning's schedule. But to be sure, the little guy could not have picked a better crowd to get stranded in front of.

Sharing the surprise on their Facebook site, the team admitted that this rescue was not part of that day's ceremonial agenda, but hey, what a cute turn of events on such a tragic anniversary, right?

Exactly how the kitten made his way onto the truck remains a mystery. Still, any pet parent familiar with kittens knows a tiny cat will happily climb into something without any clear plan on how to exit. Natch, those big brave firefighters stepped in and safely brought their feisty little stowaway back to solid ground.

Now, vehicles are full of tempting hiding spots for curious animals, with compartments, engines, wheels, and tucked-away spaces and that's just one reason we all need to conduct a quick check around and beneath our vehicles - hidden critters may not respond quickly enough when your engine starts. But this wee one's timing couldn't have been better as he was quickly spotted, cornered, and scooped.

And what began as an adorable rescue took a sweeter turn almost immediately. A spectator watching the ceremony offered the newly found kitten a forever home, according to the firefighting team. No surprise that within a matter of hours, the teeny tabby went from stuck on a fire truck to finding their forever family, all in a matter of hours. Quite the morning for all involved!

The Coral Springs detachment added one more detail that made the story a little more meaningful. The pint-sized furball just might be getting a fitting new name, "Hero," according to his rescuers. Perfect, given how his unexpected arrival gave those attending a small bright spot to share alongside a somber morning of remembrance.
