On January 16, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a statement saying they had granted full approval of a drug that may help treat lymphoma in dogs. The drug Laverdia (verdinexor) is given in the form of oral tablets.

Laverdia for Lymphoma in Dogs

Lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system and its lymph nodes, and Laverdia may help stop the spread of lymphoma. A study, which involved dogs with T-cell and B-cell lymphoma, showed that this drug helped slow the progression of the disease.

This drug was given conditional approval by the FDA in January 2021, and the conditional approval was renewed four times. Since Anivive Lifesciences, Inc. was able to provide data showing the effectiveness of the treatment, full approval has been granted.

Dog parents can get this medication only with a prescription from their veterinarian.

Follow Dosage and Safety Instructions Closely

If your veterinarian has diagnosed your dog with canine lymphoma, you can talk to them about the pros and cons of Laverdia, as well as what you can expect when it comes to safely administering the oral medication at home.

This medicine is given twice a week, but at least 72 hours has to pass between those doses, and each dose should be given right after your dog eats to ensure it’s properly absorbed. Like all drugs, Laverdia can cause side effects, so it’s important to discuss those with your vet as well.

The FDA states it’s important to follow the instructions that come with this medication. For example, for your safety, you should wear medical gloves when handling this medication and giving it to your dog. Also, while your dog is on this treatment, you should wear medical gloves when cleaning up after them.

Bottom line: This is another option available to veterinarians who treat canine lymphoma, and that’s very good news for dogs and their caretakers.
