Lost Cat Found After 10 Years
We’ve covered a lot of stories about pets being reunited with their families, thanks to their microchips, and pets who were found after many years away from home. We now have yet another happy story to share with you! A lost cat from New Jersey was found and brought home after 10 years. Read all about it below.
Missing Since 2015
A family in New Jersey adopted a pair of kittens in 2015. But their happy time with their new pets was cut short when one of the kitties got out of the house through a window.
They couldn’t find the kitten, despite looking everywhere, contacting shelters, and putting flyers up to alert others in the neighborhood to keep an eye out for their cat.
The family thought that they would never see their fur baby again, but years later, they would get their happy ending.
Reunited in 2025
In November 2025, 10 years after the kitten went missing, someone found a stray cat and brought her to the Montclair Animal Shelter.
Staff scanned the kitty for a microchip, saw that the chip was registered to a family, and contacted them to let them know their pet was at the shelter. Then, on the 14th of November, the family was finally reunited with their long-lost cat, who is now 10 years old.
This is one of many, many cases where microchips are effective at finding missing pets and reuniting them with their families. Everyone was thrilled
Microchips Can Help Bring Lost Pets Home
Microchips can be effective, but there are instances when they aren’t. The key is to make sure your microchip is working and registered with the correct contact information so a shelter or veterinarian will be able to get in touch with you if they find your pet. In this case, the microchip’s information was accurate and the family was notified right away.
