A North Carolina rescue dog named Dexter has appointed himself an unusual full-time job: hauling the family's cat beds out the door, several times a day, whether anyone asked him to or not.

It seems the Granville County dog landed at a shelter after being abandoned by a hunter who reportedly no longer had a use for him. Sadly, this is a dilemma that happens annually and more frequently than one might imagine. Now, this this hard-working Beagleentered an uncertain chapter in his story so, fingers were crossed when Dave and Robin met him and decided to welcome him into their home. You see, energetic Dexter had already been adopted and then returned to the shelter. So, I mean everyone was hoping third time would a charm for this twice-rejected pooch, right?

With the love and stability that followed, Dexter's true personality began to bloom. And that's where it gets interesting. Because it didn't take long for his new family to notice that their much-loved rescue dog had a very determined approach to household organization.

Dave and Robin affectionately nicknamed him "Determined Dexter," because once he decided the cat bed belonged outside, the matter appeared to be settled. Did I say that he was hardworking? Yes, this busy boy grabs the bed, marches for the door, and refuses to let furniture, doorways, or anyone requesting that he stop, get in his way. Okay, I'm loving the visual of this.

And it's not a one-off according to his family. Dexter performs his cat bed relocation duties multiple times a day, suggesting he has either developed a strong opinion about where feline furniture belongs or has quietly given himself a full-time job. And apparently he is surprisingly strong once the object to be moved has been chosen, refusing to give up despite the struggle to squeeze it through the compact dog door.

While the cat beds are his usual targets, Dexter is willing to diversify. A Halloween bucket has also received the outdoor treatment, raising the possibility that his real policy is simply, "If I can carry it, it might belong in the yard."

The funniest part may be that Dexter's obsession with repositioning things never results in them being destroyed. It seems he doesn't shred the beds, tear into the stuffing, or leave behind the kind of fluffy crime scene that would suggest a personal grudge against the cats. He carries each bed outside, deposits it in its new location, and moves on with the quiet satisfaction of an employee who has completed another task nobody assigned him.

Dave and Robin cover off the return trip, bringing the beds back inside to restore order until Dexter notices their error in judgement and begins the entire process again. Their beds simply keep disappearing through the door, carried off by a very determined dog convinced that outside is where they belong.

As amusing as the routine has become, Dexter's story carries a sweeter meaning beneath all those displaced cat beds. He once sat in a shelter after being discarded by someone who no longer considered him useful. With Dave and Robin, he finally found people willing to let him simply be a dog, with no usefulness left to prove. Awww.... I'm not crying, you are!

Now his biggest responsibilities are entirely self-appointed. The cat beds will probably keep coming back inside, and Dexter will probably keep carrying them out again. Somewhere in that ridiculous little cycle is the happy ending he deserved: a dog whose only real problem is keeping up with a job that exists entirely in his own head. Maybe next, they could train him on the garbage bins!
