Okay, we all think our pooches are the cutest. Am I right?

I mean, rescue dog or not, our feisty, fuzzy, little bed buddies could each easily win the cutest of the cute competitions. And in my humble opinion, my little Ruby would lead the pack.

But I digress. You see, our favourite source of celeb gossip, People Magazine, has, for the ninth year running, partnered with leading pet food manufacturer, PEDIGREE® to intro their uber-popular World’s Cutest Rescue Dog contest.

And just like in previous years, they’re prepared to make the all important determination as to which lovable mug presents the ultimate in cuteness. Or rather, their readers will get to make that determination after the People Magazine editors have pared down the list from thousands of entries to just the top 10. That’s when the voting public gets to weigh in and help determine which of the adorable mutts will earn the cutie-pie moniker for 2026.

Now, the editors at People want the backstory on your pup as well. How did you meet? Which shelter did you adopt them from? All the usual deets.

But then, you get to share a pic that’s sure to win over hearts. Per the organizers, they want you to pick the “sweetest, most personality-filled photo”. Something that will showcase your little guy’s uniqueness. Winsome and coy or bold and sassy. You pick, then let the judges know exactly how your pet has changed your life since joining your family.

If they possess hero qualities, they want to hear about them. Have they overcome physical challenges or disabilities? Share, share, share.

And there’s a bounty of prizes to be won. This year’s cutie patootie will have their image captured in a photo shoot and be featured in a special issue of People Magazine. They’ll enjoy a year’s supply of dog food courtesy of Pedigree and also have a $1,000 donation made on their behalf to the animal rescue organization of their choice.

Getting excited? The contest is open to all dogs living in the United States and runs from July 1 to 24. Magazine Editors will review all submissions and share the "top ten" with readers on August 17.

And that’s when you can get involved because readers are encouraged to vote for the pooch (or pooches) that best capture their heart. But don’t dawdle, because you only have until September 28, to make your feelings known. That’s when the top three dogs, as voted on by readers, will advance to the finals, with the winner announced this October.

So, pull out the cameras and start writing up those bios. Read the rules and fill out your ballot by visiting the World’s Cutest Rescue Dog site.
