Does your cat influence your decision to continue dating someone? According to a survey by Whisker, maker of the popular Litter-Robot automatic litter box, the answer is yes for most cat parents. Here’s what they discovered.

Whisker’s survey involved almost 1,000 people from Europe and the United States. It showed that 76% of cat parents will observe their kitty’s reaction when dating someone new to determine if they should keep dating them or move on.

People Really Trust Their Cats’ Judgment

Although some survey respondents said they would ignore their kitty’s negative reaction to someone, nearly half of them said that they’d slow down, reconsider, or even break up with someone if they found that their cat didn’t approve of the individual.

Also, 32% of the survey respondents shared that their cat influenced their decision when it came to giving someone a second date.

Many pet parents trust and rely on their cat’s intuition and perception. In fact, 42% of people said they believe their kitty is better at spotting red flags than they are. And pet parents even said their cats are better than family and friends at quickly recognizing red flags.

In other words, individuals are willing to listen to their cats if they find their pets aren’t responding positively to someone—after all, the cats might be picking up on something that their humans are missing.

Having a Cat Is a Green Flag

Men who have cats are considered green flags, according to 62% of respondents. Compared to men without cats, those with felines are viewed as more emotionally intelligent by 52% of respondents. And 77% of people said “cat dads” are attractive.

Finally, with Valentine’s Day coming up, it’s also worth mentioning that 38% of respondents said they’ve canceled a date on the holiday to instead stay home with their kitty. Plus, 42% of them said they’d choose spending the day with their feline rather than their partner.

Do you consider your cat’s opinion when dating? If not, you might want to turn to your furry friend for a vibe check the next time you meet someone new.
