Guinea pigs are some of the sweetest companions you can bring into your home. Their gentle personalities and cute little habits make them incredibly endearing.

Whether you already adore them or you are just curious about what makes these small creatures so charming, here are three adorable facts that show why guinea pigs have won so many hearts.

1. They communicate with an entire vocabulary of squeaks and purrs

Guinea pigs are surprisingly expressive. They use different sounds to share their moods and needs. A happy guinea pig often lets out a soft purr, especially when it is calmly resting or enjoying gentle petting.

You might also hear excited squeaks that sound a lot like tiny whistles when they know food is coming. Each sound has its own meaning which makes getting to know your guinea pig feel like learning a new but very cute language.

2. They like to “popcorn”

One of the most adorable things guinea pigs do is something called “popcorning”.

When they are especially happy or full of energy they suddenly hop in the air with quick little jumps that look a bit like popcorn popping.

Young guinea pigs do it most often but adults sometimes join in too. Seeing a popcorning guinea pig is one of the clearest signs that they feel safe and loved.

3. They thrive on companionship and form strong bonds

Guinea pigs are naturally social animals. In the wild, they live in groups so they feel happiest when they have company.

A bonded pair will play together, rest together and even chat with each other using soft sounds. This strong social nature also extends to their humans.
