A half-open door and the smell of fresh tortillas were all it took to turn a hungry street kitten into the muse for a beloved Mexican tortillería. Hey, you had me at fresh tortillas!

Now, according to iHeartCats.com, before the famished feline settled in to his bakery abode, he had been just one of the many street cats prowling the neighbourhoods of Mexico. Skinny, feisty, and always in search of his next meal and a shady place to kill an afternoon. That was, until he picked up on the aroma of freshly baking tortillas wafting from a shopfront... and he wandered in.

It's reported that owner Señora Mago, known affectionately as La Güera, noticed the skinny black interloper but rather than shooing him away, she let him stay. The rest, as they say, is history. The baker, who had been making tortillas for more than 20 years suddenly had a silent partner after continuing to welcome the cat back to her restaurant. Dubbed "Pachuco", he grew to become a regular feature at the eatery and why not? This cat had shelter, water, attention, and all the carbs he could want!

No surprise it didn't take long before customers started to recognize the, dare we say, iconic black fixture and even the locals grew to watch for him as well. In fact, word has it that he soon became synonymous with the tortillería itself.

Fast forward and like all small businesses, a refurb was planned. But this wasn't just any refresh because it was about to get some brand new signage. After sharing so many years with Pachuco, Mago decided that putting only her own name above the storefront no longer felt right. So, according to iHeartCats.com, the business was officially renamed "Tortillería La Güera y Pachuco," complete with an illustration of a black cat.
