With Superbowl LIX (hey, is that pronounced licks?) just around the corner, fans aren’t the only ones getting ultra-hyped about the chance to settle in for an afternoon of world-class football, spicy chilli, and icy cold beer on tap. Neither is the exciting build-up to Sunday’s game exclusive to those super-fit athletes who get to strut their stuff for the cameras.

You see, my friends, the players aren’t the only ones who get to run the celebrated field at this much-watched sporting event. In fact, they may not even be the most thrilling part of the event.

You guessed right…Puppy Bowl XXI is back! And as the longest-running call-to-adoption televised event ever, it’s as much a part of Superbowl Sunday as big-screen TV and those oh-so clever advertising campaigns.

At this year’s event, 142 dogs from 80 different shelters and rescues will showcase their lovable selves as they vie for a spot on your sofa. Yes, they’re adorable and adoptable and for this, the 21st Puppy Bowl games, they’ll be divided into two hard-hitting teams: Team Ruff and Team Fluff. Squaring off this Sunday, February 9th at precisely 2 pm ET / 11 am PT, these pooches will all be putting on their game faces as they vie for a place in your heart.

But what makes this year’s match extra unique is the eleven special needs dogs who will be part of the rescue canine pack! And we’re happy to introduce them to you:

On Team Ruff, we have wheelchair speedster Jolene from Ohio's Humane Society of Greater Dayton, along with New Yorker, Trio who was born with differently sized front limbs and has been calling Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue home for the past little while. Then there is Trevor from the Green Dogs Unleashed Rescue in Troy Virigina. Trio is deaf so will rely heavily on hand signals from his coach throughout the game. Joining the Team Ruff pack is visually impaired Mindy from the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Pennsylvania and Sprinkle who is both visually and hearing impaired and hails from the Danbury Animal Welfare Society in Connecticut. Rounding out Team Ruff is Rocky from Pets with Disabilities in Maryland. Like Trio, Rocky was born with limb differences and just like Trio, this pooch is ready to play ball!

Let’s take a peek at Team Fluff where one-eyed Winston from the Phoenix Animal Rescue is just itching to run the field. Then there’s hearing-impaired Hunter, who joins his best buddy Trevor from the Green Dogs Unleashed rescue… alas on opposing teams so may the best dog win! Chasing right behind Hunter will be one-eyed Hewett from New Jersey’s MatchDog Rescue and Carl, a visually impaired pooch from New York’s Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue. Carl is counting heavily on his teammates to bark commands his way on Sunday! And lastly, we have wheelchair sportster Maxx who calls the Nevada SPCA home and who beat the odds when his front legs were amputated causing him to quickly adapt to his new two-wheel mode of transport.

So much more to watch for this Super Bowl!!
