For over 80 years, New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has been the epitome of high-end style for those with a penchant for designer duds and pockets much, much deeper than mine! But this year, the Big Apple’s runways were filled with a little more than uber-thin models and slinky silk dresses. They included some dapper-looking dogs and some very good causes.

And now that fashion’s must-do event has just wrapped up for another year, let’s take a peek at how those chicly turned-out canines stole this year’s spotlight and gained some serious ink in the process.

Checking out designer Anthony Rubio’s show, we found decked-out dogs sporting seriously haute couture silhouettes from Rubio’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection. Yes, 15 pooches ranging from tiny Chihuahuas to standard Poodles walked the prestigious runway (along with their owners) – wearing designs inspired by Marc Chagall and the iconic Parisian musical, Moulin Rouge. Why do it? Rubio claims inspiration came from a desire to promote optimism and, of course, opulence. That, and he just wanted to give his patrons a reason to smile. No shortage of appreciative applause at this one.

Down the street, the whimsical stylings and Best in Show theme of designers Rachel Antooff and Susan Alexandra made headlines when celebrities such as Edie Falco and Dylan O’Brien took to the runway garbed in the duo’s latest creations – a highlight of which were seriously fanciful, canine-inspired handbags.

But that wasn’t the only thing doggy-shaped in this show because those strutting their stuff on the catwalk (or rather dogwalk) also toted an up-for-adoption pooch that hailed from one of the area’s animal shelters. Of course, there’s always a winner when the theme is Best in Show, and this year it was an English Bulldog named Elmer, who accompanied social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney down the runway.

Yes, whether parading right alongside the smiling celebs or cradled gently in their arms, these ready-to-be-loved dogs brought a special je ne c’est quoi to the term SWAG. Of course, interested parties needed to meet the rigid qualifications for becoming a pet patron, but each of these models of a four-legged variety had the perfect opportunity to showcase their best side in a bid to win over a prospective audience.

And lastly, we have leading global designer Jason Wu, who dedicated his 2025 NYFW collection to the evolution of pet culture in America. Partnering with Purina Dog Chow (who happen to be leaning into their 100th year of production), Wu incorporated the brand’s iconic packaging in his Spring/Summer 2026 line.

That’s a wrap for this year’s NYFW… and who knows, maybe we’ll see some of these designer duds for dogs featured on Amazon.com one day. One can dream!
