Reading about missing pets being reunited with their families is always wonderful. Sometimes, it’s with the help of AI or drones, while other times, a microchip saves the day. Whether it’s days, weeks, months, or even years later, when a lost pet is able to go home again, it’s a time to celebrate. But you typically hear about lost dogs and cats, not ferrets.

Well, in a recent news story, a missing ferret was indeed found and brought back home, but what’s interesting is he was found a whopping 10 miles from home—very far for a little pocket pet!

Pabu the Ferret Goes Missing

Pabu the ferret went missing, and it took two weeks for him to be found. His owner realized that he was gone one day after returning from work, and the family started searching high and low. They could even tell that Pabu’s companion ferret was also looking for him and missing him.

It turns out that Pabu, who lived in East Asheville, North Carolina, was found more than 10 miles away. He was under the car of people who managed to see him before he got hurt. Rather than keep him, they brought him to the Buncombe County Animal Shelter.

Then, the team at Asheville Humane Society started to look through records to try to find the report of a missing ferret that they had seen recently. After locating the report, which was already two weeks old and showed that he lived quite a distance away, they weren’t sure it was actually Pabu.

A Very Happy Reunion

Pabu was extremely lucky to have been found, and despite being on his own for so long, he was in good condition, too. Plus, everyone at the shelter who interacted with him loved him, as he was entertaining and social.

Shelter workers got in touch with Pabu’s owner, who immediately recognized him when she saw him. And when he was reunited with his family, everyone was thrilled.

No one knows how Pabu went missing or how he got so far from home. Perhaps he was picked up by someone or potentially even got in someone’s car. If only he could talk, we’re sure he would tell everyone about his adventure.
