It’s an anxiety that every pet parent (especially those of us who are long-term) has been through at one time or another. A sick pet, an urgent visit to the vet, and then the waiting. When your best buddy is sick – really sick – the anxiety of waiting for answers is truly excruciating.

Such is the case for F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton as he stands vigil over his beloved English Bulldog, Roscoe. You see, this portly pooch has been prone to pneumonia, and his latest bout found him seriously struggling to breathe. Rushed to his local veterinary hospital, the understandably anxious pooch was sedated to allow the vet to check him out. And that’s when his heart stopped. Quickly jumping into action, the vet team managed to get it started again, but poor Roscoe was left in a coma.

Now, for F1 fans the world over, you’ll know that seven-time champ Hamilton is absolutely devoted to his stocky sidekick. For those working the racetrack circuit, it’s not unusual to see this dog-loving driver walking around with Roscoe in tow anytime he’s not behind the wheel. In fact,

this sturdy pooch with the jowly face is not only adored by his pet parent, but he boasts an Instagram following of 1.3 million and a profile that states he is a “ vegan bulldog that loves to travel and play ball”. Love it!!

But notoriety aside, it was his tight relationship with Hamilton that prompted luxury sports car brand Ferrari to welcome the driver to their team, with not only a nice little paycheck but a Roscoe-in-mind dog bowl.

For those unfamiliar with the English Bulldog breed, they can be prone to heart issues due to their stocky frame and the breathing problems that accompany a brachycephalic dog. And with a typical lifespan of six to 12 years, we’re really hoping that 12-year-old Roscoe will find the strength to work through this latest health scare.

And it will come as no surprise to any pet parent that when his pooch took ill and was rushed to the hospital, Hamilton didn’t hesitate to pull out of a Pirelli tire test in Italy to be with his best buddy. Sending out an emotional plea to fans, Hamilton says, "Please keep Roscoe in your thoughts”. Of course we will. And as Roscoe’s dad enters into that waiting game, we all dread, “We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support." So many of us can relate to that emotionally-charged vigil.

We hear you, Lewis Hamilton, and are cheering you both on!
